(Un)Scary Movie(s)

Last weekend, we decided to do a movie marathon focussing on only horro movies. Ok, ok we didn't decide any such thing. After scarfing down free drinks and food at a 5 star, we watched The Hills Have Eyes at home. I was the only one cringing with terror but then I was also the only sober person around. But then again, the movie wasn't that scary.. Anyway, then I got the idea of watching all the so-called scary movies that premiered last Friday. So we sat through 1408, I am Legend, 30 Days of Night across 2 days. And except for covering my eyes through most of 1408 (come on it is Stephen King!) I was only marginally terrified. A far cry from when I sat trembling after watching The Ring. So its left me wondering - am I getting braver or are the movies getting less scary? And since I still leave my light on during the night, I think its Hollywood's fault. More gore, less terror; more spills, less thrills; more yawn, less yikes!
On a different note, despite an obviously aging face and less than supple body, Madhuri Dixit's comeback film Aaja Nachle is still one of the better movies I've seen all year. And when you think I'm talking about the year of Jab We Met and OSO, that's quite good company for a 40 year old Bollywood actress.
